Donovan Mitchell Signs Three-Year, $150 Million Contract Extension with Cavaliers

Last week, there was talk of a four-year, $209 million contract for Donovan Mitchell. Eventually, ESPN teaches us that it extends to the Cavaliers for just three years, and $150 million. With a “player option” for the final year of that lease, in 2027–28.

The end of a soap opera lasting several weeks Clevelandwhile the All-Star guard could initially be a free agent in the summer of 2025. He will now have the possibility of being a free agent in 2027, provided he decides not to complete his contract until 2028.

As Donovan Mitchell said he was “happy” in Ohio and the Cavaliers were visibly satisfied with his performances, the two camps have therefore agreed to continue their association. A decision that will reassure the fans of the franchise, even if it could mean the departure of Darius Garland, who would like to flourish elsewhere than in the shadow of “Spida”. The Cavs would not be against keeping him either.

Since arriving in Cleveland, the 27-year-old guard has simply been playing the best basketball of his career: 27.5 points, 5.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals on average over two years (at 48% shooting, 38% on 3-pointers and 87% on free throws). As for his team, it has not done better than a conference semi-final (this year against the Celtics, future NBA champions).
