Just one game of the 2024 Brasileirão this Monday (1), but what a game!
Nothing more, nothing less than a Palmeiras 2 x 0 Corinthians to liven up the night. (see highlights below)
The first half was weak, mainly because Timão defended very well, didn’t let the rival play and waited for a counterattack.
The “highlight” of the first half was Zé Rafael’s forced approach to receive a yellow card, already injured, and serve a suspension while recovering.
But after the break, the name of the game was Raphael Veiga.
First, for scoring a “strange” goal, taking a free kick from the edge of the area, but with the ball deflecting off Fabinho’s head, who was crouching down, and hitting the post before ending up in the back of the net.
Then, for taking the corner kick to the head of young Vitor Reis, at the near post, and extending the lead.
And, finally, for starting a general confusion by bumping Rodrigo Garro in the back – who was “squared” Estevão – and being sent off.
The victory left Palmeiras in second place, with 26 points, behind only Flamengo (27 points). Corinthians remains in second-to-last place with 6 points.
