In front of over 10,000 spectators in the state of Kentucky, the US second division team got off to a good start, keeping the match evenly balanced, especially in the first 30 minutes. Eintracht, on the other hand, needed a while to get into the game. Coach Dino Toppmöller only brought one new signing into the starting line-up in Uzun. Koch and Larsson were absent due to injuries, and Dina Ebimbe was absent due to workload management.

Ekitiké started in the center of the attack and missed Frankfurt’s first big chance with a header after just under half an hour (29th minute). A little later, the Frenchman put a much harder shot into the far corner from 15 meters to give SGE the lead (42nd minute). The second half then began around 45 minutes late: a storm warning caused a delay, and the players warmed up again.

Eintracht back in action after a long break: Matanovic scores twice

Eintracht coped much better with the unusual conditions, and the Hessians made a dream start to the second half. Compared to the first half, only Collins, Knauff, Chaibi and Skhiri remained on the pitch – and the latter scored the second SGE goal just after the restart, when he took a direct shot and, with a little luck, put the ball into the left corner after a Chaibi corner (47′). And just two minutes later, Chaibi found substitute Matanovic with another delicate cross from the half-field, who made it 3-0 for the Bundesliga club with a powerful header.

In the second half, new signings Kristensen and Brown were used alongside returning loan player Matanovic, and later Höjlund and Lisztes as well as returning loan player Amenda were substituted on. Louisville did not give up and had a few chances to score a consolation goal, including central defender Charpie hitting the crossbar with a header after a corner (60th minute). Matanovic, however, scored the final goal, physically asserting himself after a through pass from Marmoush and finally scoring into the empty net (80th minute).
