British Mercedes driver George Russell won the Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix, held on Sunday afternoon at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg bei Knittelfeld. Russell beat Australian Oscar Piastri, second for McLaren, and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who finished third. The reigning world champion, Dutchman Max Verstappen of Red Bull, was leading the race until seven laps from the end, but he received a penalty due to contact with fellow McLaren driver Lando Norris.
For Russell, who is twenty-six years old and is considered one of the most promising drivers in the championship, it was the second victory of his career.
