Euro 2024: Bellingham gets suspended match and €30,000 fine for obscene gesture

Jude Bellingham has been given a suspended one-match ban after committing an obscene gesture after his goal against Slovakia by putting his hands in front of his crotch as he walked past the Slovakian bench, UEFA announced on Friday.

The 21-year-old Englishman was also fined €30,000. On X, Bellingham had denied any offensive gesture, writing that the gesture was just a “private joke towards close friends who were at the game”, adding that he had “nothing but respect” for Slovakia.

Jude Bellingham will be able to play against Switzerland in the Euro quarter-finals on Saturday for a place in the last four of the competition, given that he has only been given a suspended sentence.

UEFA’s announcement comes at the same time as Turkey’s Merih Demiral was handed a two-match suspension following his celebration after his second goal against Austria.
