Turkey defender Merih Demiral has been banned for two games after celebrating with the Grey Wolves salute for his second goal against Austria in the Euro 2024 round of 16. The gesture is attributable to the Turkish far-right movement involved, among other things, in the attack on Pope John Paul II. The “political” salute, banned by UEFA regulations, is illegal in Austria, where even the government has intervened in the case. Demiral will therefore miss the quarter-finals against Holland
