ÖFB cup party can be quite expensive
There are minor repercussions for Austria: The security giant Securitas is keen to point out that it had nothing to do with the minor security deficiencies surrounding the team because it was not hired by UEFA. The Austrian fan club announced that the fans who sang a scandalous song before the Turkey match were not part of it. The 38 cups that flew towards Arda Güler could cost the ÖFB a six-figure sum. For Rapid, the European Championship meant a lucrative side income. There were four Rapid players in the squad, of whom only Querfeld played once. Hedl, Seidl and Grüll, as well as the ex-Rapid players Kainz and Entrup, were among those who did not play a single minute.
Former Rapid talent Weimann played for three minutes. This time UEFA is paying out 140 million euros to the employers of the professionals taking part in the tournament. Fair and reasonable, given the record profit of 1.75 billion. Around 10,000 euros are due per player per day. Austria took part in the European Championship for 23 days. Rapid received around 40,000 euros for each player. That makes a total of almost half a million euros.
