Exciting First Round Matches for Canadian Tennis Stars at Wimbledon

The first round match between Shapovalov and Jarry will be broadcast from 6 a.m. Monday on RDS2 // Follow all the action at Wimbledon live from the All England Club in the RDS.ca multiplex environment.

The third and penultimate major tournament of the season will kick off on Monday in London, and two Canadians will be on the programme for the first day on the grass at Wimbledon.

Denis Shapovalov will be the first to go, as he will face Chilean Nicolas Jarry, 19th seed in the competition, at 6 a.m. (Quebec time).

Now ranked 121st in the world, the 25-year-old left-hander hopes that a good run at the All England Club will help him regain his former glory.

This will be the first time on the ATP Tour that “Shapo” faces Jarry, a 6-foot-7 giant who is 28 years old. Their match is played on court no. 14.

For the ladies, around 11:15 a.m., 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu (No. 176 in the WTA rankings) will make her debut against Romanian Jaccqueline Cristian (No. 62).

The duel between Andreescu and Cristian will be the fourth of the day on court no. 15, after that between Sorana Cirstea (29th seed) and Sonay Kartal (no. 298), a British player from qualifying.

A total of five Canadian representatives are at Wimbledon: in addition to Shapovalov and Andreescu, the Canadian team is also counting on Félix Auger-Aliassime, Leylah Annie Fernandez and Marina Stakusic.
