Fan Scandal Mars Austria vs Turkey Match: When Sportsmanship Goes Awry

These moments have nothing to do with sportsmanship.

In the run-up to the round of 16 match between Austria and Turkey, a fan scandal occurs in a broadcast by SRF (Swiss Radio and Television).

During a link to the Austrian fans, cheering spectators can be seen chanting the slogan “Foreigners out, foreigners out” to the well-known melody of “L’Amour Toujors”.

Actually, the beautiful side of the European Championship, namely cheering fans, should be shown, but instead the young men are pushing themselves into the foreground with these disgusting scenes.

Before SRF reporter Calvin Stettler can even conduct the first interview, the anarchists cause a scandal.

In response to a query from dpa on Tuesday evening, the Leipzig police said they had raised initial suspicions and were investigating the matter.

Most recently, the Nazi scandal occurred on the German island of Sylt at the end of May. In the upscale town of Kampen, a group of young people filmed themselves in the celebrity bar “Pony”, singing the same slogans to the tune of DJ Gigi D’Agostino.

Now there are also such terrible scenes during the European Championships.

And unfortunately, this is not the first time that this has happened to the Austrian fans. The first victory on the second matchday against Poland (3:1) was already met with ugly slogans.

In the Austrian fans’ block next to the Marathon Gate, unknown people in the front row are displaying a banner with the inscription “Defend Europe” – a slogan that the right-wing extremist “Identitarian Movement” has been spreading for years to incite hatred against migration.

The association reacted, writing in a statement: “The ÖFB is very concerned that such a banner got into the stadium despite strict controls. The national team and the association clearly stand for tolerance, diversity and integration in all areas of our society.”

Apparently this does not apply to all fans…
