One departure follows another at FC Bayern Basketball. After the surprising departure of coach Pablo Laso and players Niklas Wimberg and Sylvain Francisco, sports director Daniele Baiesi is now also leaving the top Munich club.

On their club’s own website, Bayern cited the relocation of Baiesi’s life to his Italian homeland as the reason, after the 48-year-old had held the sporting reins for years as a leading figure in Bayern circles and in Bamberg.
“The job at Bayern was an immense honour and an indescribable privilege. For that, I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone I have worked with and for over the years. I hope that I have been able to repay the incredible trust and respect that I have always experienced here and that this jersey is now in a better position. I leave with a lot of great affection and gratitude,” Baiesi was quoted as saying.

Managing Director Marko Pesic said an emotional goodbye to someone who was described as a “friend” in the farewell message: “We have known for some time that Daniele wanted a change after a decade in Germany. We regret this very much and wish him all the best for the future.”

Pesic added: “We will not only miss him as a proven expert who has played a decisive role in our club’s positive sporting development in recent years; we will also miss him very much as a character. Baio is no longer our sporting director, but he will always remain a close friend of our organization and the Bayern family.”
In his seven years at FCBB, Baiesi won the championship three times and also took home four cup victories.
