With Felix Agu, Bremen were able to keep their next regular player. The nimble winger has fought back after a long injury and now wants to build on his previous performances.

Stays in Bremen: Felix Agu. IMAGO/Steinbrenner

After a long injury break, Felix Agu fought his way back last season. He made his first brief appearance on the ninth Bundesliga matchday against Union Berlin, and a few weeks later he established himself on the left side. The nimble winger beat Olivier Deman and became a regular at SVW.

Agu will now hold this position in Ole Werner’s team for the time being, with Deman being the challenger on the left wing. “It’s just nice that you can go into the new season with a clear head and play freely in order to then show the best possible performance,” said the 24-year-old in an interview on the Bundesliga club’s website about his contract extension in Bremen, which was officially announced on Tuesday.

As always, Bremen did not provide any information about the duration of the contract, but it is apparently a working contract dated until 2027. But why stay in Bremen? “I simply saw that I can develop well here. Working in a good environment every day, with a good team and a good coaching team. I think that I am not at the end of my development yet, but that there is still a lot to come and I hope to be able to do that here in the future,” explains Agu.

Training camp is coming up: “A completely different intensity”

Little by little, Bremen are tying up more and more players, and the positive development of the 2022 promoted team is unmistakable. After finishing 13th in the year of promotion, they finished ninth last season and almost qualified for the Conference League. SVW now wants to build on that.

On Wednesday, the well-known training camp in Zillertal (Zell am Ziller) is scheduled. “The training camp is of course positive on the one hand because you get to be with all the guys every day, which is fun and you spend the odd evening together. But it will also be a completely different intensity, so I might use my free time for a nap,” said Agu.

And what will happen next for the 24-year-old personally? “I definitely want to build on my recent performances and continue to develop. Of course, I also want to stay injury-free and have fun on the pitch with the team. I think that whenever we have brought this fun onto the pitch, we have also shown good performances,” the fast man makes clear.
