Feyenoord’s David Hancko Responds to Rumours of Departure amid Atletico Madrid Interest

David Hancko has responded for the first time to all the rumours surrounding a possible departure. The Feyenoord defender is in the interest of Atletico Madrid and the Spaniards want to add Hancko to the selection as soon as possible. The left-footer is open to a new challenge.

”I can focus on it more now, because now I can put the European Championship aside,” Hancko tells Voetbal International. ”Things have been mentioned in the media, but I will first talk to my agent. We can talk about that in the next two weeks and then also with Feyenoord. We will see.”

”I’ve said many times that I’m very happy at Feyenoord. I love the club, the fans, the stadium and everyone at the club. I’ve improved a lot as a player here, but as an athlete you also have to try to experience new things and it would be nice to take on an even bigger challenge in a bigger league.”

Hancko wants to emphasize that he does not want to force a transfer at all. ”I have a contract with Feyenoord, they also have to approve it. We also talked about it with Dennis te Kloese, he said to me: of course we want to keep you as long as possible, but if something big comes along we want to think along. But then of course they have to be satisfied with the transfer fee.”

Atletico Madrid is explicitly mentioned, but clubs from England and Italy are also mentioned. Hancko has isolated himself from all reports in recent weeks. ”I don’t know at the moment, I was completely focused on the European Championship the past few weeks, now I can put everything aside. I’m on vacation now, but in the coming weeks there may be more clarity.”
