Hertha BSC was able to make the first test match of the preparation for the 2024/25 season very successful. The Berlin second division football club celebrated a 7-0 win against regional league team FSV Bernau on Sunday afternoon. It was the debut of coach Cristian Fiél.
Hertha quickly made things clear
The match was initially marked by a storm over the Bernau Stadium, which brought a lot of rain and wind and which, as time went on, was to have an increasingly greater impact on the pitch conditions.
At first, however, Hertha played furiously as the clear favorite. After just ten minutes, the score was already 3-0 for the “old lady,” with Derry Scherhant scoring twice and Palko Dardai once. Hertha kept the pressure on, barely letting the home team out of their own half. After 20 minutes, captain Fabian Reese increased the lead to 4-0 with a spectacular direct shot. Four minutes later, winger Scherhant scored his third goal of the day to make it 5-0 – and thus the half-time score.
Space problems lead to less spectacular second half
The heavy rain shower was to have a major impact on the game, as the waterlogged grass became deeper and more difficult to play on with every minute. Technical errors and inaccurate passes were the result – and therefore a less playful game.
Hertha coach Fiél sent a completely new eleven onto the pitch for the second half, which continued to be the dominant team but was significantly less dangerous in front of goal. Gustav Christensen (47th minute) and Florian Niederlechner (86th minute) increased the score to 7-0, but no more goals were to be scored.
Hertha’s next match is next Saturday with a friendly against regional league team FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt.
