Atletico Madrid were “surprised” by Alvaro Morata’s decision to join Milan. On Tuesday, at 3 p.m., Morata sent a message to Miguel Angel Gil, CEO, and Carlos Bucero, general manager – according to As’s reconstruction – asking to meet them. He wanted them to be the first to know when the decision would be made.
The meeting took place at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium and in an atmosphere of affection and mutual respect, but it was still a surprise for Atlético since, despite the doubts expressed in several interviews, neither Morata nor his entourage had informed the club that he was leaving.
