Football: For the first time in 23 years, there is no longer any Zidane at Real Madrid

It’s the end of an incredible love story between a family and a club, rich in four Champions Leagues, and five men who have worn the same jersey, more or less closely. The Zidanes have just left Real Madrid for the first time in 23 years. The last representative within the Madrid club, Théo Zidane was not kept on by the Castilla reserves.

His father had launched this impressive dynasty in the summer of 2001 when he arrived in the Spanish capital for 75 million euros from Juventus Turin. Since then, at least one Zidane has been present in the club’s teams, as a player or coach. His first two sons Enzo and Luca, playmaker and goalkeeper respectively, are the only two to have had their chance in the first team.

The last two, Elyaz, left defender, and Théo, midfielder, packed their bags from Castilla without ever having been able to set foot on the pitch with the A team. Elyaz took charge of the Betis Seville B team last winter while Théo is expected at a second division club next year.
