Football: Layvin Kurzawa questioned in investigation for assault outside nightclub

An investigation is underway for group violence with an ITT of less than eight days, led by the police station of the 5th and 6th arrondissements, confirmed the Paris prosecutor’s office. It concerns the former PSG player Layvin Kurzawa, whose entourage allegedly attacked a tourist leaving a nightclub.

Kurzawa and his driver were questioned freely on Friday as part of these investigations, which are continuing, the same source confirmed to AFP. No one has been taken into custody so far. Questioned by AFP, the entourage of the 31-year-old footballer did not immediately respond.

A complaint filed on June 1

The investigation was opened after a 37-year-old Canadian national filed a complaint on June 1, accusing men who accompanied the footballer of having attacked him as he left a nightclub in the 8th arrondissement of Paris on the night of May 29 to 30.

According to his account, at around 5am, he was outside the establishment, in line with a friend, his phone in front of him, when a man – he says he did not know at the time that it was Kurzawa – “aggressively” asked him for his phone to see his videos, thinking he was filming him. Which the complainant refused to do.

The “three or four” men accompanying the footballer then “strangled him from behind” and made him fall, injuring his elbow, face and arms in particular, according to his complaint, which was seen by AFP. They forced him to unlock his phone, found that there were no Kurzawa films, let go of him and left, according to his testimony.

“As expected, the establishment curiously misplaced the only video tape from the camera that had filmed in the direction of the scene of violence,” commented the plaintiff’s lawyer, Soraya Nouar, contacted by AFP.
