Football: Steve Mounié leaves Stade Brestois and signs with German club Augsburg

He will therefore not participate in the Champions League next season with Brest. Steve Mounié has not reached an agreement with the Breton club for a contract extension. The German club Augsburg announced this Friday on its social networks that it had recruited the French striker. He has signed until 2027.

Aged 29, Steve Mounié will play in a foreign championship for the second time in his career. He played three seasons for the English club Huddersfield Town, between 2017 and 2020. Before joining Stade Brestois. In four years spent in Finistère, he played 135 matches and scored 33 goals.

Renowned for the quality of his heading game, the striker participated in Brest’s formidable season last season. He scored 6 goals in 32 Ligue 1 matches. The Breton club finished in third place in the championship and therefore qualified for the next edition of the Champions League.

Stade Brestois will not, however, play its home European Cup matches at its Stade Régis-Le Bris, as it does not meet UEFA standards. The matches will therefore take place in Guingamp, at the Stade de Roudourou.
