France-Belgium (1-0): “Stupid”, when De Bruyne rages after a question on the Belgian “golden generation”

Kevin De Bruyne is bitter. Eliminated from Euro 2024 after Belgium’s defeat in the round of 16 against France (0-1), the midfielder did not appreciate a question from a journalist at a post-match press conference. He was asked about the famous “golden generation” of Belgian football, embodied by De Bruyne or Romelu Lukaku and who missed one of their last chances to win a trophy.

“But what is a golden generation?” the Manchester City player snapped back in English. “So you’re saying that France, England, Spain, Germany don’t have a golden generation? Thank you.” And the Belgian got up from his chair and muttered “Stupid!”, his head down, as he left the press conference room. Which could be his very last as captain: when asked about a possible international retirement, De Bruyne, 33, was evasive.
