French Archery Team Set to Aim for Gold at Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The Olympic Selection Consultative Commission (CCSO) met on Thursday June 27, 2024 to finalize the list of French athletes who will represent the country at the Paris Olympic Games. Among the disciplines announced, archery particularly attracted attention with a talented and promising team.

The Selected Women

As the host country, France has full quotas for the archery events, allowing three men and three women to participate. The selected French archers are:

  • Lisa Barbelin (Archers Riomois)
  • Amรฉlie Cordeau (1st Arc Company of Annemasse)
  • Caroline Lopez (Archers Riomois)

Lisa Barbelin: An Experienced Leader

Lisa Barbelin, at 24 years old, is the leader of this female trio. Building on her performances since 2021, she notably won a silver medal in the World Cup on the Esplanade des Invalides in August 2023 and a bronze medal at the European Championships in May 2024. Having already participated in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, she brings valuable experience to the team.

Promising Young Talents

Caroline Lopez, 21, and Amรฉlie Cordeau, 18, complete this team. They both showed their potential by winning team gold at the European Championships in Essen and silver at the World Cup in Antalya in June 2024. The French women’s team shone throughout the 2023 season, with podiums at the World Championships and the European Games.

The Selected Men

On the men’s side, the selected French archers are:

  • Baptiste Addis (Arc Club de Nรฎmes)
  • Thomas Chirault (Archers Clermontois)
  • Jean-Charles Valladont (Arc Club de Nรฎmes)

Jean-Charles Valladont: Experience at the Service of the Team

Jean-Charles Valladont, at 35 years old, will bring his invaluable experience to the team. Having already competed at Beijing 2008, Rio 2016 (where he won an individual silver medal), and Tokyo 2021, he is back at the highest international level. In 2023, he reached the World Cup podium and won an individual bronze medal at the European Championships.

Ambitious Young Guard

Thomas Chirault, 26, is making his second Olympic selection after the 2021 one. Baptiste Addis, at just 17, will be the youngest member of the men’s team. Their collective performances in 2024, including a European championship title and a second place in the World Cup in Antalya, place France among the favorites for the podium.

Technical Supervision

The team will be supervised by:

Head coach : Mr OH Seon-Tek

National coaches: Jean-Manuel Tizzoni (women) and Romain Girouille (men)

DTN : Benoit Binon

High level manager: Anne Reculet

These professionals will provide optimal strategic and technical support for French archers during the Olympic Games.

Objectives and Ambitions

With a team made up of proven talents and promising young people, France hopes to shine in the archery events at Paris 2024. The recent performances of the archers, both individually and as a team, suggest great possibilities for medals. . The archers will participate in the individual and team events, and two of them, a man and a woman, will represent France in the mixed event.

Expectations are high, and France intend to take advantage of home advantage to maximise their chances of success.
