According to information communicated on Monday by the French Judo Federation, the gathering of the team led by Baptiste Leroy has been interrupted after a case of Covid among the members present on site.
“Due to a case of Covid affecting a participant in the French men’s team’s Olympic preparation camp at the CREPS in Montpellier, the French Judo Federation has decided this evening to shorten the camp for its Olympic selections and their training partners,” France Judo confirmed in a press release.
Rinse not in contact
Spotted Monday at the Sud de France Arena during the basketball match lost by France against Germany (65-70), Teddy Riner apparently had nothing to fear. While recalling its commitment to the health of athletes, the French Judo Federation assured that the triple Olympic gold medalist had had no contact with the person sick with Covid. The seven men selected for the Paris event will compete from July 27 to August 3. Initially planned in Hérault until July 12, the preparation course is therefore ending earlier than expected.
After a visit to INSEP, the team members are expected to head to Le Touquet to complete their preparation before the opening ceremony on July 26 and the start of the events in a discipline where France (men and women) brought back a total of eight medals from the Tokyo Olympics, including two gold.
