French Quartet Makes History at Wimbledon: Four Players Secure Spots in Main Draw

Four French people, Quentin Halys (photo), Hugo Gaston, Lucas Pouille and Maxime Janvier have won their place in the main draw at Wimbledon. Record equaled!

There will therefore be four more to compete in the main draw at Wimbledon. With eight boys and one girl present in the last round, one could almost hope for an even better record, but there were two fratricidal matches which eliminated them from the race, in facttwo “Frenchies”.

These are Luca Van Assche et John Mpetshi Perricard who remained on the floor, beaten respectively by Lucas Pouille (7/6, 7/5, 6/2) and by Maxime Janvier (6/7, 7/5, 7/6, 7/6). In a match where the loser, “Gio”, served 44 aces!

Record equaled!

In a completely different style, Hugo Gaston (n°2), he overcame another seed, the Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin (n°27), 6/2, 1/6, 7/5, 6/1. The other Franco-Kazakh duel of the day also smiled on the Blue. Quentin Halys defeated Beibit Zhukayev (6/3, 6/4, 6/4).

Four qualified for Wimbledon, a record equaled after that of 2002 (Jean-François Bachelot, Grégory Carraz, Cyril Saulnier, and Nicolas Thomann) and 2021 (Grégoire Barrère, Benjamin Bonzi, Antoine Hoang and Arthur Rinderknech)!

This fine quartet will therefore see the main draw and will closely monitor the draw scheduled for Friday morning. Which will not be the case for Hugo Grenierreleased by South African Lloyd Harris, and Richard Gasqueteliminated by the Czech Vit Kopriva (3/6, 6/3, 6/2, 6/4).

Elsa Jacquemotshe too, experienced the frustration of stumbling on the last step. The Lyonnaise lost to the Australian Olivia Gadecki (7/5, 4/6, 6/3).
