This book is a compilation of 26 installments of the column “Raising a Beast,” which has been serialized in the Hokuriku Shimbun newspaper since January 6, 2022, along with illustrations drawn by the author herself. It describes her struggles raising two children while utilizing her experience as a judo player to develop and manufacture products for the ice cream business she chose as a second career. The book includes stories about the joys and hardships of raising children, the bonds with family, and balancing work and family life.

Regarding the release of the book, Matsumoto commented, “I was surprised because I never thought my serialized column ‘Raising a Wild Beast’ would become a book. I write about the unusual incidents that happen every day. I would be happy if it can put a smile on the face of as many people as possible.”

Matsumoto won the bronze medal in the women’s 57kg judo category at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. During her active career, she was known as the “Beast” for her sharp gaze during matches. She retired in February 2019 and started an “ice cream shop” as her second life. She married an ordinary man in November 2016. She gave birth to her first child, a girl, in January 2017 and her second child, a boy, in December 2019.
