(af). The Gießen 46ers will start the 2024/25 season of the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProA away. One week after the competitive opening match in the BBL Cup (the opponent has not yet been determined), the players of head coach “Frenki” Ignjatovic will face his former club Kirchheim Knights. The jump ball for the match on Saturday, September 21st, will be at 7 p.m.
The old master will be playing at home for the first time – and certainly with great motivation – on Sunday, September 29th. At 3 p.m., the PS Karlsruhe Lions will be playing in the Osthalle. The team that not only knocked Gießen out of the competition in the playoff quarter-finals of the past season, but later even surprisingly secured the title in the final against Frankfurt, although without being promoted because the Baden team had not received a BBL license, will be making its mark.
On Saturday, October 5th (7.30 p.m.), captain Robin Benzing and co. will face the Uni Baskets Münster, so Ignjatovic speaks of an “extremely demanding opening program.” “Our first three opponents were all in the playoffs and want to reach them again,” said the 57-year-old. “But if you want to be successful like we are, you have to beat every opponent,” said the Serb, who is currently on vacation in Croatia, looking forward to the new season.
In the main round, the ranking of the best eight teams will be played out on 34 match days until the end of April. There will be nine matches on each match day. For the first time, all double match days will take place on Fridays and Sundays. All 306 games of the ProA main round, plus the playoffs, will be broadcast live and free of charge on Sportdeutschland.TV.
