Goalkeeper Mariella El Sherif is moving to the newly promoted team in the German Women’s Bundesliga – FC Carl Zeiss Jena.

HARTBERG. Over the past few years, Mariella El Sherif, a native of Hartberg, has guarded the goal for SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz. Now the 19-year-old goalkeeper is moving to FC Carl Zeiss Jena, newly promoted to the German Women’s Bundesliga.

Goalkeeper of the season

Mariella El Sherif has been in goal for the “Schwoazn” since 2015, has established herself as a permanent fixture in the SK Sturm Graz women’s team and was recently voted Goalkeeper of the 2023/24 season by the Bundesliga.

Now the national team player is about to take the next step in her career and is moving to the 1st German Women’s Bundesliga. “With her commitment, passion and talent, Mariella has made a significant contribution to the success of the women’s team,” says SK Sturm on its homepage.

“We would like to thank Mariella for her many years of loyalty and tireless commitment to the club. Of course, it is a loss for us to lose the goalkeeper of the season, but it is the right time for her to take the next step in her career and we do not want to deny her this opportunity,” said SK Sturm’s women’s football director Michael Erlitz.
