Haas hires Bearman for next season

As expected, the Haas team has signed Oliver Bearman. The 19-year-old Briton, who comes from the Ferrari Academy, will drive for the US racing team from next season. Bearman has signed a contract that is valid for several years, Haas announced. Bearman is currently a reserve driver for both Haas and partner Ferrari.

Bearman made his Formula 1 racing debut in March. He drove for the Spanish Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, who had to miss the race due to an appendix operation. Bearman impressed right away and finished in the points in seventh place.

“He’s an exciting rookie with undoubtedly great prospects,” said team owner Gene Haas. “It’s hard to describe what it means to me. It makes me immensely proud,” said Bearman, commenting on his rise from reserve to regular driver.

Bearman will be in the Haas car for the first free practice session at the Silverstone Grand Prix this Friday. A seat at Haas was left free by the departure of Nico Hülkenberg. The 36-year-old German will move to the designated Audi team after this season.
