The Red Devils have finished with Euro 2024 since Monday evening and their 1-0 elimination against France. In four matches, Belgium has never convinced and has especially experienced an unusual offensive breakdown with only two goals scored. The embodiment of this problem: Romelu Lukaku, who leaves the tournament with zero points (and three goals canceled by the VAR). Did he sign his last match with the Devils against Les Bleus?

The question arises for the 31-year-old striker who has just finished a second international competition without scoring a goal after the 2022 World Cup, another major disappointment for the Devils. Since the final whistle, Lukaku has been silent. No statement to the press, no publication on social networks. Is he preparing to announce the end of his international career? We can obviously say nothing for sure.

We would still like to believe that “Big Rom” still has enough motivation and physical condition to hold out at least until the 2026 World Cup, which will include a stopover in the United States, dear to his heart, and reach the legendary hundred-goal mark with Belgium.

“Words will never be enough to explain the emotions this result evokes, but I feel better writing to all of you to try,” he wrote on his social networks on Wednesday. “We all wanted to achieve a common goal and make our fans, you, proud. Before the tournament, we all shared the same vision of success and understood how difficult it would be to achieve it.”

“Spending time as a group has helped us bond,” the midfielder continued. “On the pitch, the challenges were tougher, but we are all still proud to have given our all for this badge on our chest, despite the results. It didn’t end the way we wanted, but I am confident that we will make you proud again. Thank you for your support,” signed Mangala, who was playing in his first Euro.
