Zero Latvia has been shaken by the news of mourning. The young, talented and only 23-year-old athlete was found dead in Sweden. Roberts was a footballer of Latvian youth national teams and super league clubs “Super Nova”, “Jelgava” and FK “Liepāja”. The guy joined the Gotland football club “FC Gute” in January of this year. For reasons still unknown, two days before his birthday, Robert went missing. Unfortunately, the young man’s remains were found in June. Perhaps the talented athlete drowned in the sea.

Apollo.lv explained the reasons for the death to the Latvian public: “Latvian football player Roberts Zelmanis disappeared on April 16, 2024. A week later, chief investigator Kristian Molins revealed that the information available to the police at the time did not indicate a criminal offence, Sverigesradio reported.”
On June 25, the police confirmed that the body of missing FC Gute football player Zelmanis was found in the sea off the island of Åland. “We’ve been looking for him non-stop since April,” Molins said.
The society still does not believe that the young man voluntarily chose the end of his life. The Swedish police, on the other hand, stated in the media that no signs of a violent death were found.
It is clear that Latvia has lost a talented athlete and the family is currently in great pain. The father of the deceased Robert Zelmani refuses to make further comments to the LA.LV portal, but sends the same answer as he gave to the media in Sweden.
“First of all, we would like to thank all the Gotland Police officers for their very sensitive and professional work in searching for Robert, investigating and communicating with us. Robert was smart, conscientious and warm-hearted. We are getting a lot of help repatriating Robert’s remains. Secondly, we would like to once again express our gratitude to the coaches, players and all staff of FC Gute for honoring and remembering our teammate Robert. We love you! And Robert was satisfied with the FC Gute football club. Our family will always be with FC Gute. Thirdly, we are very grateful to all the people and organizations in Gotland who have been looking for Robert all this time. Thank you very much!”
