High Stakes: Brazil and Colombia Prepared for Important Duel

No need to spare any players. Brazil and Colombia have an important duel this Tuesday, at 10pm (Brasília time), even though the spot is assured for the Colombians and almost there for the Brazilians. The match is worth the leadership of the group, and the chance to escape Uruguay in the quarterfinals.

With victories over Paraguay and Costa Rica, the Colombian team has six points and is already guaranteed. It will be the leader with a draw. Dorival Júnior’s team has four points and is not even guaranteed a place in the quarterfinals. Elimination, however, is unlikely: Costa Rica would have to beat Paraguay, hope for a Brazilian defeat and, in addition, have to lose six goals.

The spot may be almost guaranteed, but the leader of group D will face Panama, a theoretically easier match. The second-placed team will have an early clash with Uruguay, one of the candidates for the title.

Saving is not in the plans

Brazil may make changes to face Colombia, but not with the intention of resting players. Dorival Júnior has guaranteed that he will take what he believes to be the best formation to face the Colombian team, without fear of losing players who are suspended for the quarterfinals: Éder Militão, Wendell, Paquetá and Vinícius Júnior.

“We will go into this match with the best possible formation, regardless of each team’s situation. We want to do our best and achieve the best possible result,” he said.

Dorival took the opportunity to praise Colombia’s form. For the coach, Colombia’s quality will bring a positive point: a more open game for Brazil to try to develop its football.

“There are changes depending on the needs of the match. We are studying the Colombian team a lot, they are an excellent team, they have been playing very consistently and achieving very interesting results. A team that deserves a lot of respect, you know, because of the qualities of the vast majority of their players, players who are in big clubs in world football and we are going to make the best possible lineup,” he said.

“I believe that this is one of the best generations of Colombian football in recent years, with players playing for major teams in world football with distinction, many of them within our country, in this condition of being protagonists. I have no doubt that we will have a more played game. Maybe not an open one, because the teams will be concerned defensively, but I believe that it will be a game with good prospects”, he analyzed.

Brazil should take to the field with: Alisson; Danilo, Éder Militão, Marquinhos and Wendell; João Gomes, Bruno Guimarães and Lucas Paquetá; Savinho, Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior
