“I will slap Topuria and send him to Georgia”

“The Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is at the top”

MARBELLA, July 18. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –

Irish fighter and BKFC co-owner Conor McGregor said Thursday that martial arts are “an incredible vehicle” for young people and that bare-knuckle boxing in particular is at “the top,” while accepting a challenge from Spanish champion Ilia Topuria: “I’ll slap him, I’ll punch him and I’ll send him to Georgia.”

“Martial arts are an incredible vehicle for young people and I would definitely encourage all parents to encourage their children to practice martial arts. This sport, the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, is at the top,” he said at a meeting with the media in Marbella, where Europa Press was present for the presentation of the company’s evening that will see the Spaniard Franco Tenaglia face Tony Soto in Marbella on October 12.

The UFC fighter and co-owner of BKCF explained that this martial arts discipline is, in terms of “hardness and intensity”, a “dangerous” business. “But we have safety protocols that we follow. If a fighter gets up and decides that this is for him, that’s it,” he said.

“Combat sports and martial arts will give a young person discipline, dedication, drive and confidence to go and achieve anything in their life, be it a professional sports field, a fight or just learning. Plus they will be social with like-minded people,” the Irishman added, encouraging young people to take up mixed martial arts.

On the other hand, during his various talks with journalists, McGregor was blunt in his statements against Ilia Topuria who, after being the first Spanish UFC champion last February, challenged the Irishman. “Topuria has had a decent victory,” but pointing out that he is “a champion” and “always” will be. “I will slap him, I will hit him and I will send him to Georgia,” he added.

A statement to which the Spanish-Georgian champion was quick to react: “Little finger! Welcome to my house, it’s great to see you working for us. Come to Madrid and we’ll see who slaps who. Topuria Knuckles for dinner,” he said on his ‘X’ account.

The Irishman also confirmed that he still has “two fights” left on his contract with the UFC and that one of them will be at the “end of the year” against American Michael Chandler. Regarding the Bare Knuckle company, McGregor said that they have “big events and big names and rising stars.” “We are excited to see what the evening of October 12 will bring,” he said.

On the other hand, the two-time UFC champion was impressed that last Saturday the Santiago Bernabéu stadium had an attendance of 80,000 people for an amateur evening. “It’s incredible because the boxing event was not really of a high level. It shows that the hunger for fighting in Spain is there. I don’t know what the future holds for us, but I would be willing to bring more events to Spain, without a doubt,” he said.

Finally, McGregor was delighted with Spain’s victory at the Euro Cup because it won him a million dollars, thanks to a bet before the start of the championship. “Spain put in an absolutely stellar performance throughout the tournament. They are an incredible team, and I cheered for them, yes. I bet $80,000 and won a million,” he concluded, laughing and wearing his sunglasses.
