Iga Swiatek, world No. 1 and seeded No. 1 at Wimbledon, qualified for the third round on Thursday. The Polish player won against Croatian Petra Martic (6-4, 6-3) in one hour and 20 minutes. Her next opponent will be Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, who defeated Czech Katerina Siniakova (6-0, 4-6, 6-2).
Swiatek needed just one break in each set to overcome Martic, ranked No. 85 in the WTA. In the first set, she stole the Croatian’s serve at 5-4 to secure the win. Then, in the second, she broke at 4-3 before closing out with a clean sheet.
