The Chinese Badminton Federation has expressed its sincere condolences over the tragic death of Zhang Zhijie, a 17-year-old player of the Chinese national team, at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Born on January 30, 2007 in Jiaxing, Zhang joined the national youth team in 2023 and has already won several titles, including the men’s individual and team championships of Group B of the China Badminton Youth Championships for 2023 and 2024.

The tragic incident occurred during the final group stage match of the tournament on June 30, when Zhang suddenly collapsed on the pitch. Despite immediate efforts by medical staff and emergency responders, he was rushed to hospital where he died at 23:20 local time.
