JAKARTA – Indonesian mixed doubles pair Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari will have a similarly difficult start to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The results of the badminton draw (cabor) held at the BWF Headquarters, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday, 12 July 2024, Western Indonesia Time, place them in Group A.
The group includes a world number one pair, Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong. The pair certainly came with more ambitions after missing out on a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The record meetings between the two couples showed that Zheng/Huang was more superior. In a total of two clashes against Rinov/Pitha, they always came out on top.
The other two opponents in the same group were world number eight South Korean pair Kim Won-ho/Jeong Na-soo and the host mixed doubles, Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue.
Rinov/Pitha need to finish in the top two to reach the quarterfinal round. The opportunity is open because their record with the other two doubles is quite good.
According to statistics, Rinov/Pitha has always won on two occasions against the South Korean pair and lost only once in three clashes with Thom/Delphine.
Indonesia has up to nine badminton representatives who will compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The sport will be played from July 27 to August 5, 2024.
