NFL Highlights for July 5

Dak Prescott reportedly injured

The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was wearing a protective boot on his right foot after suffering a sprained foot. It is not yet known when the injury may have occurred.

The injury is not serious, but the 30-year-old has been wearing the boot for a week now. ESPN even has a different take, announcing that the Cowboys quarterback will no longer wear the protection.

The Cowboys will open training camp on July 25, so there’s still time for the quarterback to get his ankle ready for the start of practice.

Prescott is out of contract at the end of the 2024 season, and the Cowboys cannot use the franchise tag on him. Contract negotiations between the two sides have not yet progressed in any serious way. But, this injury could disrupt its course.

Cam Newton is not number 1 according to himself

On the latest episode of his weekly show “4th & 1 with Cam Newton,” Cam Newton (QB) answered whether he considered himself the best dual-threat quarterback of all time. Without hesitation, the former NFL MVP said Lamar Jackson held that title.

“No, Lamar Jackson. Lamar’s style is a little different than mine. He’s got big plays in every situation. He’s got speed that I’ve never had, and he’s just electric. I played a game with more power. I can run, but I could probably get caught. (Michael) Vick, Lamar, they’re not going to get caught.”

Transactions

– Rams announce signing of safety John Johnson IIIThe 28-year-old returns to the franchise that selected him in the 3rd round of the 2017 Draft. He recorded 2 interceptions last season with the Browns.

CJ Stroud could become the best quarterback in the league

During an appearance in the video series I Am Athlete On Wednesday, the Texans receiver Tank Dell has outlined a bright future for his quarterback CJ Stroud.

“He just brings a different style. I definitely feel like CJ has an opportunity to be the best quarterback in the league. I don’t say that because of who he is to me, but just because of what I see him do every week. What the world sees, they see exactly what we see. The way he goes out there as a 21-year-old kid playing against adults, and he’s just out here playing every week. How consistent he is. I feel like CJ has to continue to do what he’s doing to bridge the gap between him and Mahomes.”
