Ippon Karate Lentini from Sciacca always protagonist on the platforms
international. This time those relating to the third stage of the Youth League which was held in Porec, Croatia. 3714 athletes from 75 different nations, present in the most important WKF youth circuit, took turns on the platform in the various specialties and categories based on weight. The Porec competition was one of the most difficult and important stages of the Karate 1 world circuit in the first half of the year.
At the Youth Kumite World Cup, the partnership of Piero and Marco Lentini won another extraordinary bronze medal with Emma Colletti, from Calamonaci, protagonist in the Under 21 category up to 50 kilograms.
For Colletti another great performance that goes hand in hand with the medal won a few days earlier at the Rome Open League. Good ninth place finish for Nicolò Alfano, Under 21 up to 60 kilograms, who, despite winning his mat, then had to surrender in the quarter-finals against a very good Ukrainian athlete, winner of the category. Nothing to do, however, for Giuseppe Gigliotta and Gioia Gulotta who have, however, proven to be worthy representatives of their team. For the club from Sciacca, Ribera and Sambuca di Sicilia, therefore, yet another medal at world level.
And let’s move on to judo. Karate Judo Club of Sciacca present at the regional phase valid as qualification for the national finals of the specialty CONI trophy. The race was held in Palermo at the Pala Oreto.
Coach Alberto Catanzaro brought athletes Vincenzo and Cristian La Bella to the stage who showed interesting technical and sporting improvements. Second place for Vincenzo La Bella who lost the final against an athlete of a higher belt and thus saw his pass to the Coni national final vanish for a very short time. Fifth place, however, went to Cristian La Bella who, after winning two matches, lost, solely due to the referee’s judgement, a long and intense final for third place.
The athletes were accompanied to Palermo by coach Alberto Catanzaro, assisted by Andrea La Bella as senior student. The appointment is now in September for the new competitive judo season with the hope that it will give the Saccense association new satisfactions.
