The German professional basketball player Isaiah Hartenstein is likely to move from the New York Knicks to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the North American professional league NBA. According to several US media reports, the 26-year-old is about to sign a three-year contract worth 87 million dollars (81 million euros) with the title contender from the Western Conference.

Only basketball legend Dirk Nowitzki has so far signed a deal with a higher salary in the NBA as a German. In terms of annual salary, Hartenstein has the highest-paying German contract in NBA history.

Hartenstein was a free agent after two years with the Knicks, meaning he can move freely. Last season, the center was one of the top performers in New York who were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs, averaging 7.8 points and 8.3 rebounds. Due to the salary cap, the Knicks were unable to make an adequate offer to the 2.13 meter tall Hartenstein, who is known for his physicality and aggressiveness in offensive rebounding.
