After the continental competitions, the Rankings are updated, Santuccio 3rd in the épée ROME (ITALPRESS) – World and European champion, but also world number 1. Tommaso Marini will arrive at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games as the leader of the international men’s foil ranking. At the end of the individual competitions of all the Continental Championships held in June, in fact, the foilist of the Fiamme Oro, who a few days ago in Basel, eleven months after the world title in Milan 2023, also became European champion 2024, is back at the top of the rankings, a peak that had already been his in the past before the shoulder injury that forced him to undergo surgery and miss several competitions. Tommaso Marini, who won – among other things – the 2022 World Cup, will therefore face his first Olympics in his career not only as a world gold medalist (in the Olympic year, obviously, the world championship is not held, which will return to Tbilisi 2025) and as a reigning European, for him also the privilege, and the responsibility, of being number 1 in the Ranking.

The Ancona native precedes the American Nick Itkin and the Tokyo 2020 Olympian, Ka Long Cheng, representative of Hong Kong. The new European champion Arianna Errigo rises and becomes number 2 in the world (a title she won for the third time in the individual field in Basel). The Italian standard-bearer at the 2024 Paris Games, who had slipped out of the “top 16” after her maternity leave, literally climbed the rankings, taking second place behind only the American Lee Kiefer and ahead of two teammates , Martina Favaretto (number 3) and Alice Volpi (in 4th position). Thanks to the bronze at the European Championships in Switzerland, she achieved 3rd place in the world ranking Alberta Santuccio in the women’s epee (Kong of Hong Kong leads ahead of the French Candassamy), while Giulia Rizzi is in 5th place. In the men’s epee, where the Hungarian Siklosi is the record holder, the best Italian is Davide Di Veroli, holder of the World Cup and now ranked 6th. In the sabre, the best Italians are Luigi Samele, 7th in the men’s ranking now led by the Egyptian Elsissy, and Martina Criscio, 12th in the women’s ranking led by the Japanese Emura. From today, less than a month before the Paris Games, all the Italian national teams are on a collegiate retreat: coach Stefano Cerioni’s foil and Dario Chiadò’s sword work – respectively – at the Coni Olympic Preparation Centers in Rome and Tirrenia, while Nicola Zanotti’s saber trains in Ayas, in Valle d’Aosta. – Photo Ipa Agency – (ITALPRESS). srp/com 01-Jul-24 10:03 .
