Jonquière Voyageurs Reflect on Participation in LBÉQ Mid-Season Tournament

The Jonquière Voyageurs of the Ligue de Baseball Élite du Québec (LBÉQ) are delighted to have participated in the first edition of the mid-season tournament, played from last Thursday to Sunday.

Let’s remember that the tournament, without impacting the regular season standings, also allowed some players on the team to play in other positions, in addition to giving others the opportunity to play more often. Marketing and communications manager Guy St-Gelais mentioned that everyone responded well, and that the tournament gave them the opportunity to play in the Montreal area, something they don’t often get to do during the regular season.

In a “true double” format, the adventure allowed the Voyageurs to successively face Laval, the junior AA team from Montreal, then Lasalle, then Laval again, before losing in the champions round in Charlesbourg against Granby.

Guy St-Gelais mentions that the players gave their all, before admitting defeat against the Warriors, while they were exhausted. A post-mortem of this 1st edition of the tournament will also take place at the end of the season.

In the meantime, the Voyageurs will return to regular season action this weekend, facing Trois-Rivières and Repentigny in two doubleheaders on the road. The return to Richard-Desmeules stadium will be Friday, July 12, when Jérémie Chalifour’s troops will host the Quebec Diamants.
