(Minneapolis) Jose Miranda tied the major league record with a hit in 12 consecutive official appearances in the batter’s box, helping the Minnesota Twins beat the Houston Astros 9-3 on Saturday.

Fans gathered at Target Field gave Miranda a standing ovation when the announcer announced the record. Miranda, a 25-year-old infielder from Puerto Rico, raised his helmet in appreciation.
Miranda started the game with 10 straight strikes. In his first at-bat, he was hit in the arm by pitcher Hunter Brown but stayed in the game.
In the second inning, he hit a single. In the fourth, he once again reached first base after placing the ball in right-center field. His streak ended in the sixth when he hit a fly ball to left field.
He shares the record with Johnny Kling (1902), Pinky Higgins (1938), and Walt Dropo (1952).
Byron Buxton and Brooks Lee homered in the win. Willi Castro added three hits, helping the Twins build a 7-1 lead after three innings.
Joe Ryan (6-5) allowed three runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn his first decision in four outings.
