The Erlangen Jahnhalle always offers a somewhat unusual setting for a Bundesliga fight, darkened and with a bright spotlight above the mat. Now heat and humid air were added to the mix. It was a hot affair in every respect, and at the beginning perhaps a little hotter than the Speyer team would have liked. The atmospheric home crowd was enthusiastic early on, because the first two fights went to their team. Speyer’s David Riedl and Jan-Niklas Goldhammer had to admit defeat to Robin Gutsche and Kai Brandes.
Müller has more staying power: JSV Speyer fights back
This made the following fight between Philip Müller and Alexander Trost in the weight class up to 73 kilograms all the more important. In a hard-fought duel, both pushed themselves to their limits, but neither gave anything away, so that after the end of the regular fight time, the fight went into overtime. As so often in such marathon fights, Müller had the necessary stamina and willpower at the end to gain the decisive advantage and catch up for the JSV.

But since Patrick Schmidt suffered a defeat, Speyer had to fight again to prevent the hosts from pulling away. The fact that Georgian Tengo Zirakashvilli and Italian Andrea Carlino, who had just been nominated for the Olympic Games in Paris, were next in line was very convenient: the two won their fights early and equalized.
At the end of the first round there was another marathon match between Speyer’s Yves Touna and Erlangen’s Vlad Paramarciuc, which remained without a winner in regular time. Here too, the JSV player literally had the longer stamina and sent the guests into the break with a narrow 4:3 lead.
Strong second half: Speyer dominates after the break
In the second round, the favored Speyer team quickly made things clear. The changes in the line-up paid off, as in the first two fights Franz Haettich and Viktor Driller defeated the two Erlangen players Gutsche and Brandes, who had won the first round. It was no longer of much importance that Philip Müller was unable to repeat his feat from the first round in an even longer duel lasting over eight minutes and had to admit defeat.
Andreas Benkert also suffered an annoying defeat, but the Speyer final trio were reliable and confident victories for Zirakashvilli and Carlino sealed the deal from Speyer’s perspective. In the final fight, Yves Touna increased the score to 9:5.
