Speaking on England’s social media channel ‘Diary Room’, Bellingham explained: “It was more instinctive than a conscious decision. The ball came at me perfectly, it was a little behind me. When I was in the air I thought, ‘My God, I’m half a metre off the ground.’ It felt like Cristiano Ronaldo. But I looked at it afterwards and I still had one arm on the ground, so it wasn’t exactly acrobatic!”
He still thought his goal was beautiful – and important: “But I think it was still a good goal. When I turned around on the ground and saw that the ball was going into the goal, I thought ‘Oh my God!’ That was definitely one of the most important and memorable moments of my career so far.”
