What future for Casper Schmeichel (37 years) ? Officially, since today July 1, the Danish goalkeeper is… no longer a RSC Anderlecht player. His contract ended on June 30, and no extension was announced.
If the parties want to continue together, they should sit down at the table in the coming days, now that Denmark has been eliminated from Euro 2024. In the meantime, Schmeichel spoke of offers notably from Saudi Arabia.
“I have received Saudi offers, yes. But that means nothing to me,” admits Kasper Schmeichel to EkstrabladettDanish media. “In Saudi Arabia, I would no longer have any chance of playing for the national team. What’s more, the level there is not comparable to the European top.”
The European top is not RSC Anderlecht either, despite all the respect we owe to our Jupiler Pro League. And the level shown by Kasper Schmeichel last season and at the Euro attracted attention. We doubt very much that we will see the Dane return to Brussels…
