Kevin Yebo: From Niners Chemnitz to the NBA – A New Adventure Awaits

Chemnitz – 108 competitive games, 1414 points, sixth place in Chemnitz’s all-time best list. Kevin Yebo (28) has been the face of the Niners for the past two years. Now the 28-year-old is moving to the USA. Will he find happiness in the NBA?

“It was simply impressive how efficiently Kevin used his playing time. He was able to give the team important impulses again and again and his strikingly agile and tricky style of play quickly won him the sympathy of the fans,” says Niners managing director Steffen Herhold (38), who at the same time had to announce the departure of Ousman Krubally (36).

“We would like to thank Kevin and Ous, who contributed significantly to the most successful season in our club’s history with a Europe Cup win and a playoff semi-final,” said Herhold.

“They were of enormous value to our team, not only in sporting terms but also as human beings, and we wish them all the best on the field and in their private lives.”

While Krubally had to watch the Bundesliga mainly from the stands (reason: foreign player rule), the Chemnitz team’s game was played through Yebo. The 2.07 meter tall man had an outstanding hit rate.

Yebo’s 68.4 percent from the two-point range, 37.4 percent from the three-point range and 72.8 percent from the free throw line made him one of the most dangerous players in the entire Bundesliga. The Bonn native also got to the free throw line a whopping six times per game.

“I received so much love in Chemnitz that sometimes I was even unsure whether I deserved all this applause. When I came here two years ago, I just wanted to work hard and try to get the best out of myself,” said the forward as he said goodbye.

“I think our fans saw that and I hope we made them proud. From a basketball perspective, these were the two best years of my life and I thought about staying for a long time. Ultimately, however, I would like to try a new adventure.”

That’s why Yebo is now heading to the USA. He wants to try his hand at the NBA Summer League first and recommend himself for a place in the best league in the world.

If things go wrong, a return to Germany could be just as possible, but also a club in another European or Asian country.
