KIMA TROPHY 2024 | Sportdimontagna.com

Kima Trophy, Saturday 24 August: a great event… for everyone. Registrations for the Grande Corsa sul Sentiero Roma (52 kilometres with 8,400 m of total elevation gain) closed in record time, and it sold out very quickly (350 registered from 27 different countries with 19.5% women). Now, the secretariat of the non-profit association of Valmasino is focusing its energies on the two non-federal side races (Kima Trail and Minikima) and on the Extrême Skyrace® which, numbers in hand, is already in triple figures having exceeded 100 registrations.

Strengthened by the feedback collected in the debut edition, which saw Luca Del Pero (2h58’42”) and Giulia Compagnoni (3h40’40”) climb to the top step of the podium, the beautiful sky designed on the final part of the Kima Trophy aims to grow further. It is no coincidence that the organizing committee has provided 250 goody bags. Its strong point? A high adrenaline level given by the verticality and technicality of the route. In short, an “extrême” ring in name and in fact involves a length of 27.5 km, 1890 m of positive difference in altitude with the summit reaching 2570 m above sea level at the Barbacan Pass (GPM of the race).

PATH: the departure and arrival location will always be the area in front of the Casa delle Guide in Filorera. The competitors, after reaching the town of San Martino on the cycle-pedestrian path, will head for the “Lo Scoiattolo” campsite via the Bregolana dirt road. Here they will cross the stream and climb towards Bagni Masino, entering the spectacular and uncontaminated pine forest of the Ersaf regional reserve. Once the first 8 km are archived, relatively runnable, the race will come to life with the ascent to the Gianetti Refuge where the sky test will be linked to the final part of the Kima Trophy with the pass of the Barbacan Pass, the last of the seven Alpine passes touched by the Great Race on the Path Rome, descent towards the Omio refuge and Bagni Masino, passage through San Martino and a well-deserved rest at the Filorera finish line.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT: as per the regulations, up to a maximum of 300 athletes will be admitted to the race (race package guaranteed to the first 250 participants) who have reached the age of 20, have a medical certificate of suitability for competitive B1 sports and who have already completed a Skyrace race in the years 2021/2022. It should also be remembered that a 3h30′ time gate will be established at the Gianetti Refuge which will prevent competitors arriving beyond this limit established by the organizing committee from continuing the race. Latecomers will be stopped and accompanied upon arrival by the security guards. For everyone else, the maximum time to finish the race will be 7 hours.
