Free agent Cameron Payne has reached an agreement to join the Knicks. The 29-year-old point guard signed a one-year, $3.1 million deal and joins his fourth franchise in twelve months.

What’s 6’3″, travels a lot, and pulls completely crooked?

While several profiles fit this description, no NBA player equals Cameron Payne when it comes to imitating a hieroglyph when it comes to shooting a 3-pointer. But with a career success rate of 37% from behind the arc, respect is in order. So it is the New York Knicks who secure the services of Cameron Payne, on the basis of a contract worth $3.1 million over one year.

Payne, who began the 2023-24 season with the Milwaukee Bucks, was last seen on the court… against the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs. The point guard averaged 5.6 points in the series for Philadelphia, with a nice outside shot. It’s now as Jalen Brunson’s understudy that the Memphis native will operate on.

Low price for a big travelerwho has had his fourth franchise since… July 17, 2023, the date of his transfer from the Suns to the Spurs. In 364 days, almost a full calendar turn, he was cut by San Antonio, signed by the Bucks, traded again for Pat Beverley and then released from any contract in Philadelphia as a free agent before joining New York. No continuity, but a beautiful tour of America.

The fact remains that on the court, Cameron Payne is a backup point guard who gets the job done. A skilled shooter, not stingy with energy, he has more than 400 regular season games and 58 playoff games under his belt, including a run to the NBA Finals in 2021. Last season, between the Bucks and the Sixers, he posted 39% accuracy on more than 3 attempts from distance on average. Not bad for the price.

If the New York Knicks don’t move up a rung in the fantasy contender rankings after this signing, Cameron Payne will be a nice addition off the bench. Too bad he’s not from Villanova.
