On Tuesday, the death of Joe Bryant, better known on the court as Jelly Bean and father of Kobe Bryant, was announced at the age of 69.

According to reports from The Philadelphia Inquirer, Bryant recently suffered a serious stroke.

Jelly Bean was the Pennsylvania Public League Player of the Year in 1972, averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds in two seasons at La Salle.

He was then drafted in the first round by the Golden State Warriors in 1975 before moving to the Philadelphia 76ers and playing for the team that reached the 1977 NBA Finals.

Bryant would move to European basketball after the 1982-83 season, after eight seasons in the NBA, he moved to overseas basketball and played primarily in Italy before settling with his family in Philadelphia.
