The ‘Team Korea’ selection team for the South Korean team that will compete in badminton, shooting, boxing, and other sports at the Paris Olympics has headed to the decisive battleground, Paris, France.

The Korean badminton team, including Ahn Se-young, departed for the Paris Olympics via Incheon International Airport on the 12th. The team consists of 12 players and 5 coaching staff members, including Ahn Se-young, ranked 1st in women’s singles, 2nd in women’s doubles Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na, and 3rd in men’s doubles Seo Seung-jae and Kang Min-hyeok. The Paris Olympic badminton will begin with the preliminary matches on the 27th, the day after the opening ceremony, and will continue through the 5th of next month with matches in 5 events, including men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

Ahn Se-young, whose performance has been inconsistent since winning the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year due to a knee injury, gained confidence by defeating her rival Chen Yufei (China) at the Singapore Open Badminton Championships last month. Before leaving the country, Ahn Se-young said, “(The Olympics) are coming up, so I feel it more. I think I will gain confidence if I go there and prepare well.”

Ahn Se-young, who recently completed intensive training at the Jincheon National Athletes’ Village in Chungcheongbuk-do, said, “My body was so heavy and difficult that I wondered if it was okay for me to be like this. From now on, I will manage my condition and try to make it lighter. I will try to go in a good mood.” Ahn Se-young smiled and said to her rival Tian Weifei and other competitors she will meet in the finals, “I will tell them to just wait. I will show you everything I have prepared, so please wait a little bit.”

Along with the badminton team, the shooting and boxing teams also flew to Paris on the same flight that day. The shooting team, which aims for a total of six medals including one gold medal, is considered a medal candidate with Kim Ye-ji in the women’s 25m pistol, Ban Hyo-jin in the women’s 10m air rifle, and Song Jong-ho in the men’s rapid-fire pistol. In boxing, two female athletes, Lim Ae-ji and Oh Yeon-ji, will compete.

Starting with the badminton, shooting, and boxing teams, the Korean athletes for the Paris Olympics will head to Paris sequentially according to the schedule for each event. The archery and swimming teams will depart on the 16th, and the main group of athletes, including the fencing team, will leave for Paris on the 20th.

The Korean team, consisting of 144 athletes in 22 sports, will not go straight to the athletes’ village for the competition, but will undergo on-site adaptation training at the ‘Team Korea Paris Platform’ prepared by the Korea Sports Council.
