In connection with the incident, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Chapter 11 of the Criminal Law “Criminal offenses against traffic safety”. Greidane explains that the police are still investigating the circumstances of the incident, as it is not yet clear who was behind the wheel of the “Volkswagen”.

On the other hand, commenting on what Vaichule wrote that the accident was caused by the driver under the influence of alcohol, the police representative explains that the two people in the Volkswagen were intoxicated at the time of the arrest.

It has already been reported that according to her own post on Facebook, Latvia’s leading sprinter Vaičule was injured in a car accident caused by a drunk driver over the weekend.

As Vaičule told LETA agency, the physical injuries are not so severe as to prevent him from competing in the President’s Award scheduled for this weekend in Valmiera, but it has not yet been decided whether he will participate in these matches. She will definitely compete in the upcoming Olympic Games this summer, the athlete emphasized.
