Leandro Trossard: The Disappointing Belgian Striker at the European Championship

There were not many standouts to be seen among the Red Devils at the European Championship in Germany. Apart from Koen Casteels, no player really stood out. On the contrary, several pawns had to pay serious tribute in the newspapers. Now a new name has been added to that list

Leandro Trossard is completely dragged through the mud. The Arsenal striker was allowed to start twice at the tournament by national coach Domenico Tedesco and also managed to come on as a substitute against Romania. He remained on the bench for 90 minutes against France.

The former Genk player was not able to convince. The French-language Sudpresse is not kind to the 37-time international: “He is the real flop of the Belgians of this European Championship. Not being good is one thing. But not trying at all and playing your personal card during a tournament is at least as bad on a professional level”, it says very sternly.

Marc Degryse also sees that things are not going well with the national team: “He is finding his place, but not with the Red Devils. For him, it has been going on for a while that he is not showing what he does show at his club,” he said to Het Laatste Nieuws. “Every now and then he justifies his status as a regular player. But at this European Championship he was not convincing. It was once again not a successful tournament for Trossard.”
