LeBron James signs record-breaking contract with Los Angeles Lakers, paving way for historic father-son duo in NBA

The fulfillment of the dream of the father-son duo is taking shape: As several US media outlets report, basketball superstar LeBron James (39) agreed to a contract offer from the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. The new contract will be valid for two years and will bring the four-time NBA champion the highest possible salary of 104 million dollars for the period. In addition, James has the option to extend the contract for another year and cannot be traded.

This means that James’ new salary is now even higher than before. A few days earlier, he had activated the release clause in his contract until 2025. After that, there was speculation that he would sign on reduced terms to give the club more financial leeway for further trades.

First father-son duo in NBA history

However, the signings of potential prominent newcomers, including Klay Thompson and James Harden, which James himself had brought into play, had fallen through in the meantime.
