LeBron James signs two-year extension with the Lakers

As is often the case, it was ESPN that revealed the news that all the fans of the Californian franchise were waiting for on Wednesday, with American journalist Adrian Wojnarowski specifying that the “King” had signed a max contract of $104 million over two years, including one season as an option at his discretion (“player option”). He would also have negotiated a “no-trade clause”, which will allow him to oppose a possible transfer.

James, who in March became the first player in NBA history to surpass 40,000 points in a regular season, will celebrate his 40th birthday on December 30. While his Lakers, eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Denver (1-4) in April, are coming off a disappointing campaign (they have also hired a new coach, JJ Redick), the first pick in the 2003 draft continues to defy the limits of time: last season he averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 35.3 minutes, playing a total of 76 games.
